LETTERS OF SUPPORT DELIVERED

 

We hope to receive as many letters as possible for Bailey, so we've once again created a second "mature" page, so you can decide if you are comfortable sharing and showing the details to your students, based on their age and maturity, about Bailey's attempt to take her life to end the bullying.

So, when the bullies took her favorite drawing pencil from her and snapped it on purpose, and there was no one to help her, Bailey snapped, too. She just couldn't take it anymore after a year of being physically and verbally bullied. The 10-year-old went to the Girl's Room and struggled with thoughts of what she could do to make the boys stop and to leave her alone. It seemed hopeless. She took off her art apron and used the strings to tie it around her neck and then tie it up to the top of the bathroom stall. THANKFULLY, she was found by another student as she was leaning forward from standing on top of the toilet seat trying to hang herself.

 

Can a ten-year-old really understand the concept of taking her life? Bailey did not. In her own words, Bailey "just wanted them to stop" and she thought that, after hanging herself,

"I would have been just left alone."

 

Even though Bailey had complained about the boys, and even though the school had received other reports about those same boys bullying other kids, nothing had stopped them. When Bailey returned to the school, she was isolated and not allowed to use the regular bathrooms, only one bathroom in a special classroom, making HER feel like the problem instead of the boys that bullied her to desperation. At that point, her parents removed her from the school.
